09.01.2019

PhD student of the Institute of Botany of ANAS Aydan Zeynalova visited the Institute for Sustainable Plant Protection of National Research Council of Italy. The visit was implemented within the framework of the Agreement on the Scientific Cooperation signed between the Institute of Botany and Institute for Sustainable Plant Protection (CNR-IPSP).
During the visit Aydan Zeynalova carried out analysis on wild pomegranate plant by using the modern genetic, chromatographic and spectrophotometric methods. The research works were guided by prof. Bianca Elena Maserti, employee of Institute for Sustainable Plant Protection.
PCR (polymerase chain reaction) was used in order to carry out analysis of DNA samples extracted from the leaves of pomegranate plant. Quantitative composition of total phenols in the extracts of leave, sap, petal was studied by means of spectrophotometric methods, quantitative and qualitative composition of phenol components were determined with the use of high-performance liquid chromatography. Also antioxidant activity of extracts from different organs of pomegranate plant was studied by DPPH (2,2- diphenyl -1- picrylhydrazyl) method.
