Basic scientific achievements

For the first time, species of the genus Passiflora L. introduced from various countries — Passiflora incarnata L., Passiflora edulis L., Passiflora caerulea L., and Passiflora ligularis L. — were introduced to Absheron and propagated by seeds. Their growth rates, phenological stages, resistance to climatic factors, diseases, and pests, as well as fruit and seed productivity, were studied.

Based on bioecological and pharmacognostic studies of the four newly introduced Passiflora L. species, species with sufficient raw material reserves and a complex of biologically active compounds were identified, showing potential for the development of new medicinal preparations.

For the first time, the antioxidant activity of methanol extracts of P. edulis and P. ligularis, introduced in Absheron, was investigated. Experimental studies demonstrated that methanol extracts of P. edulis and P. ligularis fruits exhibit cytotoxic effects in vitro on lung cancer (A549) and colon cancer (HT-29) cells.
