“Ethnobotany of the Caucasus” was published in the Springer Publishing House

     The collection of articles on the flora of Azerbaijan prepared by Ibrahim Guliyev, Vice-President of ANAS and Dr. Naiba Mehdiyeva, academician Valida Alizade and Dr. Esmira Alirzayeva, employees of the Institute of Botany of ANAS is included to the encyclopedic book “Ethnobotany of the Caucasus” published by the Springer Publishing House. The book prepared under the editorship of American scientist, Rainer W.Bussman was realized with the initiative and financial support of the Missouri Botanical Garden, USA which is known for its scientific researches in the field of conservation and efficient use of biodiversity.

     The 746-page book is devoted to the study of the use of plant resources of the South Caucasus nations, as well as covers detailed information about 186 species of plants. The book includes information about geography, relief, landscape, climatic conditions, and etc. of these countries as well.

     It is for the first time that general information about the botanical description, ecology, status, distribution, usage fields of 155 species of useful plants including rare medicinal and nutritional plant species used by local people in the ancient times in the flora of Azerbaijan and the results of the researches carried out in this direction have been reflected at the international level.

     It should be noted that the book “Ethnobotany of the Caucasus” is an important scientific achievement in terms of promoting the potential opportunities of the flora of Azerbaijan of medicinal and industrial importance with the scientific basis.
