The scientist of the Institute of Botany participated in the IPBES plenary session

     Dr. Rashad Salimov, Head of the Department of Education of Institute of Botany of ANAS attended the VI plenary session of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) held in Medellin, Colombia.

      Juan Manuel Santos, the president of Colombia, the Nobel Peace Prize, Luis Gilberto Murillo, Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development of and Federico Gutiérrez Zuluaga, mayor of Medellin participated in the opening ceremony.

      The main goal of the event was to approve 6 Regional and 1 Thematic Assessment Documents by the representatives of 129 IPBES member states. These documents reflect the objective scientific assessment of the current state of the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity, the ecosystem functions and services at regional and subregional levels. This, in turn, will serve to strengthen science-policy interaction.

      One of the other important measures implemented within the framework of the plenary session was the organization of a seminar on the science-policy interface for IPBES Young Specialists. The seminar served to increase the efforts and cooperation of young professionals in the field of sustainable use of biodiversity and ecosystem services.
