A joint meeting of the Scientific Council of the Department of Biological and Medical Sciences of ANAS and the Scientific Council of the Institute of Zoology was held. The meeting was dedicated to the results of scientific and scientific-organizational activities of the Institute of Zoology in 2021.

Opening the meeting, Vice-President of ANAS, Chairman of the Scientific Council of the Department, Academician Irada Huseynova greeted the participants and gave the floor to Aladdin Eyvazov, Acting Director of the Institute, Ph.D. in Agrarian Sciences. The rapporteur said that 34 scientific researches on 4 problems, 10 topics on “Research, restoration, protection, efficient use, creation of electronic databases and maps of biodiversity, soil and water resources with modern approaches” were carried out this year, 1 of them and 109 stages were completed. noted. Aladdin Eyvazov said that in the reporting year, the institute conducted a comparative analysis of species diversity of infusoria in different areas of the Caspian Sea and a preliminary assessment of the quality of the environment for the structure of free-living primary communities.

The rapporteur emphasized that Stylurus ubadschii (Gompidae, Odonata) was first mentioned for the fauna of Azerbaijan. He described 4 new mowers and 1 species of spider (Dysderidae family) for science. For the first time, at the end of the breeding season (autumn), wild Levant vipers laid eggs with embryos that matured during the winter months (December-February) outside the season without artificial mating. These facts prove that the sperm material left in the female's fallopian tube after autumn mating has been stored for a long time, or that the fertilized egg cells have entered the embryonic diapause stage due to unfavorable weather conditions in autumn.

Stressing out the extensive research held by the experts of the working group to prepare the third edition of the Red Book of the Republic of Azerbaijan, A.Eyvazov also stated that 279 species of rare, endangered and endangered species are planned to be included in the third edition of the Red Book.

A total of 128 scientific works were published, including 55 articles, 56 theses, 4 monographs (1 abroad), 13 booklets and flyers. Of these, 41 articles and 27 theses were published in foreign journals. He said that 23 of these articles were published in journals indexed in the Web of Science and Scopus databases. Aladdin Eyvazov also provided detailed information on grant projects, signed agreements, future plans and prospects for this year. He noted that the proceedings of the scientific-practical conference dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the Institute of Zoology of ANAS and the 100th anniversary of Academician Musa Musayev, "Fundamental and applied scientific research in zoology: current issues, achievements and innovations" have been published.

Finally, the report was widely discussed, questions were answered and suggestions were made. Summing up the discussions, Academician Irada Huseynova gave instructions and recommendations to the management and staff. In the end, the company's performance was positively assessed and a decision was made to adopt an annual report.
