In connection with the preparation of the III edition of the Red Book of the Republic of Azerbaijan, a training-seminar on the topic "Evaluation of rare plants" was held at the Institute of Botany. Members of the working group created at the Institutes of Botany and Zoology of ANAS, which participated in the preparation of the new edition of the Red Book, were involved in the seminar. The event was opened by the head of the Department of Systematics and Biodiversity of the Institute of Botany, doctor of biological sciences, professor Aydin Askerov, who spoke about the work done on the preparation of the new edition of the Red Book. The scientist explained in detail the categories and criteria that will be used for the evaluation of rare plants and emphasized the need to give importance to national criteria as well as international categories.
In the seminar, biologists and zoologists made presentations according to the topic of the seminar and exchanged opinions. In the end, it was decided to evaluate the fauna and flora species to be included in the 3rd edition of the Red Book in accordance with the Environmental Assessment (IUCN) rules.
