The next meeting of the Scientific Council of the Department of Biological and Medical Sciences of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (DBMS) was held.

The vice-president of ANAS, academician Irada Huseynova, chairman of the scientific council of the department, who opened the event with an introductory speech, introduced the participants to the issues on the agenda.

The chairman of the scientific council first spoke about the tasks arising from the speech of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev at the meeting dedicated to the results of the first quarter of the current year on April 12. The issues that Mr. President emphasized about the problems caused by food shortages and inflation in the world in recent times, the further aggravation of such problems against the background of the Russia-Ukraine war, the need to increase the production of grain, especially food wheat several times in the country, etc., about the goals he set for himself, spoke and drew attention to the tasks assigned to the institutions of BTEB in relation to these goals.

In the discussions on the issue, correspondent members of ANAS, Alovsat Guliyev and Zeynal Akparov, spoke and said that Azerbaijan is capable of providing itself with agricultural products.

Then academician Irada Huseynova spoke about preparations for the General Assembly of ANAS scheduled to be held on April 27, 2022, and gave the necessary recommendations and tasks.

At the meeting, Academician Irada Huseynova also touched on the issue of the third edition of the "Red Book" of the Republic of Azerbaijan and drew attention to the importance of intensifying activities.

General director of the Institute of Botany of ANAS, doctor of biological sciences, professor Sayyara Ibadullayeva gave a speech on the issue and gave a brief information about the work done.

Then the issue of the new composition of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Microbiology of ANAS was discussed and a corresponding decision was made.

Relevant decisions were made on the 85th anniversary of the Director of Lankaran Regional Scientific Center of ANAS, doctor of agricultural sciences, professor Farman Guliyev, 80th of the Head of the Department of Plant Resources of the Institute of Botany of ANAS, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Eldar Novruzov, 60th of the Senior Researcher of Parasitology Laboratory of Institute of Zoology of ANAS, Biology Doctor of Sciences, Associate Professor Yegana Mahmudova, 50th of the Senior Researcher of the Laboratory of Terrestrial Invertebrates, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor Natalya Snegovaya and a number of other issues.
