The next meeting of the working groups on the preparation of the third edition of the "Red Book" of the Republic of Azerbaijan was held in the assembly hall of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The meeting organized in a hybrid form was chaired by the vice-president of ANAS, academician Irada Huseynova. Botanic and zoological scientists of the Institute of Botany and Zoology of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Nakhchivan Department of Biotreasures Institute, Baku State University, Ganja State University, Azerbaijan representative of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), Azerbaijan Ornithological Society and other organizations, as well as the International Protection of Nature and Natural Resources attended the meeting. Union (IUCN) commission member Dr. Andrew Rodrigues participated.
Academician Irada Huseynova, who opened the meeting with an introductory speech, drew attention to the importance of speeding up work on the new edition, said that the leadership of ANAS has provided all kinds of support to organizations and scientists in this direction and is ready to continue to do so in the future and informed the participants about the relevant works, scientific and scientific-organizational measures done by specialists. Academician Irada Huseynova said that the 3rd edition of the "Red Book" was included in the Action Plan of ANAS in connection with the implementation of the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated September 29, 2022, "On the declaration of 2023 as the "Year of Heydar Aliyev" in the Republic of Azerbaijan, and the book " He stressed that a lot of work needs to be done in order to make an important contribution to the Year of Heydar Aliyev.
During the discussions, future directions of action were specified, perspectives and problems were discussed, and numerous proposals were made for their solution. The main topics of the speeches were the general format of species essays and distribution maps to be used in these essays, literature lists, their references, and other such issues.
Concluding the discussions, Academician Irada Huseynova emphasized the importance of the event and the steps to be taken together with the Editorial Board of ANAS of the 3rd edition, relevant working groups, experts of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan. He made proposals that were met with general agreement, such as holding more frequent joint meetings of working groups in order to optimize the final works related to the "Red Book". Academician Irada Huseynova pointed out that consultations with experts of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources will be continued, and gave recommendations and tasks in the direction of intensifying the implementation of existing plans.
