The structure of the Institute of Botany of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan has been partially changed. Since the research work carried out in the "Phytosociology of Ecosystems" department has a geobotanical nature, the name of the department has been changed and replaced by the name of the "Geobotany" department. It should be noted that this decision will encourage the restoration of the "Geobotany" department that operated in the Institute of Botany in 1936-2017 and the continuation of the work carried out in this department in a more modern way, in accordance with the new scientific challenges and needs. In the mentioned department, restoration of vegetation cover of Azerbaijan, safety of phytodiversity and preparation of geobotanical maps, atlases, etc. scientific directions will be implemented.

A new Department of Biomorphology and Phytointroduction was also established in the institute. In the department of biomorphology and phytointroduction, research will be conducted mainly in 2 scientific directions (biomorphology and phytointroduction).

According to the scientific directions of the department, biomorphological, bioecological research, protection, restoration, introduction and reintroduction of valuable industrially important endemic, relict and endangered plants of the local flora will be carried out. At the same time, a gene pool collection and reproduction nursery of industrially valuable local wild rare and endemic species of economic value will be created in the experiment bases of the Institute of Botany located in Kurdamir and Zagatala regions (the Karrar Experimental Support Station and Zagatala Experimental Support Station), the scientific basis of their use in various fields of national economy will be studied.
