Within the framework of the project “Creation of algae biocultivators that reduce carbon emissions on the Caspian coastal areas of Azerbaijan” implemented by the Society of Azerbaijan Botanists Public Union (SABPU), scientists from the Institute of Botany of the MSERA and Chelyabinsk State University carried out joint expeditions.
The aim of the expedition was to collect algae species sensitive to carbon emissions in the Caspian coastal areas of Azerbaijan, find a suitable water body for biocultivation, and collect water samples for chemical analysis.
Algological studies were conducted in laboratory conditions on samples collected from the villages of Siyavar and Kanarmesha in Lankaran region, the Gizilaghaj reserve, the Caspian coastal area of Shabran region, and the Shirvan National Park of Salyan region. The species diversity of algae was determined using various determination key.
As a continuation of the research, a collection of algae species that reduce carbon dioxide emissions will be created, and the use of biotechnological methods for algae cultivation and products derived from algae in the field of aquaculture will be studied.
