Employees of the Institute of Botany were in scientific mission in the Republic of Hungary

General director of the Institute of Botany of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, professor Sayyara Ibadullayeva, Head of the Department of Mycology and Primitive Plants, assoc. prof. Dilzara Aghayeva, Head of the Herbarium Department, assoc. prof., Parvana Garakhani, and scientific secretary PhD Nigar Mursal gizi were in scientific mission in the Republic of Hungary. The purpose of the visit was to expand relations, exchange experiences, and discuss plans for future cooperation, based on the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Institute of Ecology and Botany of the Ecological Research Center in Vacratot and the Institute of Botany, MSERA. At the Institute of Ecology and Botany of the Ecological Research Center, Professor S. Ibadullayeva and assoc. prof., D. Aghayeva made reports on the structure of the Institute, and work carried out using classical morphological and modern experimental approaches in the study of botany, mycology, and primitive plants.

Then, speeches of other foreign scientists were heard, and extensive discussions were held on the topics. During the meeting, the director of the Institute, professor Peter Odor, provided information about the structure of the Institute, scientific research activities, as well as 20 projects implemented in the main direction of forest ecology and forest dynamics. The director of the Institute of Botany, professor S. Ibadullayeva, made proposals on the work to be done within the framework of the memorandum and invited Hungarian colleagues to the forum “Research and Sustainable Use of Forests” to be held by the Institute of Botany, MSERA in the summer of 2025. During the visit, the Vince Zsigmond, Director of National Botanical Garden, Vácrátót, Hungary, organized a tour of the Botanical Garden and provided extensive information about the history of the garden and the work carried out there. The scientists also visited the Kiskunság National Park. Morvai Edina, an employee of the park, provided extensive information about the establishment of the park, its activities, and educational and training trips. Accompanied by Doctor of Sciences Zsolt Molnár, the staff of the Institute of Botany, MSERA visited the Botanical Garden of the University of Debrecen as well as Hortobágy Herder Museum. Doctor of Sciences Gábor Sramkó reported that he had visited Azerbaijan as part of his research on Hungarian orchids and had collected a rare species of the orchid family, Himantoglossum formossum, from the Gusar region. Finally, the possibility of conducting joint research to clarify the correct taxonomic status of the orchid (kharibulbul), a symbol of Azerbaijan, was discussed, and a preliminary agreement was reached to combine efforts in this regard. Professor Attila Molnár, in his report on ethnobotanical research, provided information on plant species that can be used as brooms.

The scientists' visit concluded with preliminary negotiations for cooperation in conducting mycological research with Professor Gábor M. Kovács from Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest.
