For the first time since the occupation, extensive botanical research has been conducted in Aghdere by employees of the Herbarium Department of the Institute of Botany, MSERA. The aim of the expedition was to assess the biological diversity of Aghdere and the surrounding areas, which have been under Armenian occupation for nearly 30 years, the current floristic situation, a comparative analysis of the numerous plant species distributed in these areas, and to conduct thorough monitoring of new species, new distribution areas, as well as endemic and rare species included in the Red Book.

Up to 70 plant species have been collected from the Aghdere, which is mainly consists of forest areas. Species such as  Digitalis ferruginea L., Epipactis palustris, Hylotelephium maximum (L), Chrysojasminum friticans (L.), Phedimus spurius will be included in the Herbarium Fund (newly created gallery) for the first time. Despite being summer,  Cephalanthera longifolia (L.) species belonging to the early spring flora were observed in the area. GPS data of plant samples collected from the study areas were recorded, and the specimens were prepared as herbarium material on site.

During the expedition, research was also conducted in the areas of Aghdam, Asgaran, Khankendi, Khojali and Shusha. As a contribution to the implementation of the State Program on the Great Return, booklets and brochures titled "Use of Medicinal Plants Distributed in the Flora of Karabakh" about plants used in folk medicine, veterinary medicine, poultry farming and beekeeping, developed and edited by Professor Sayyara Ibadullayeva, were presented to local communities that returned to their ancestral lands. In particular, the "Information Book on Rare and Endangered Species of Karabakh" was presented to municipalities, schools, and local communities.

As a result of the expedition, 210 herbarium specimens belonging to 24 families, 49 genera, and 72 species were collected and transferred to the Herbarium Fund.
