A scientific article titled “The tree-parasitic fungus Cryphonectria carpinicola discovered on European chestnut and European hornbeam in Azerbaijan,” co-authored by Professor Dilzara Aghayeva, Head of the Mycology Laboratory at the Institute of Botany PLE, has been published in the journal EPPO Bulletin (Scopus, Q2), issued by the European and Mediterranean Plant Protection Organization.
For the first time, the article provides information on the conidial stage of the ascomycete fungus Cryphonectria carpinicola in Azerbaijan. The study reports an expansion of the fungus’s distribution range and presents the first evidence of infection of Castanea sativa (European chestnut) trees by this pathogen in the forests of the Greater Caucasus.
The research highlights the importance of conducting continuous mycological monitoring in order to ensure timely and effective control of plant diseases in the environment, particularly in forest ecosystems.
