A visit to Khankendi city was organized by the Joint Trade Union Committee of the Institute of Botany PLE of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan for employees to visit the liberated territories of Karabakh and to hold the presentation of books dedicated to the flora of Karabakh at Karabakh University.
During the visit, a presentation ceremony of scientific publications dedicated to the flora of Karabakh was held at Karabakh University. The event was attended by representatives of Karabakh University and the Institute of Botany PLE.
Opening the event with an introductory speech, Head of the Science Department of Karabakh University, Doctor of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor Elchin Ibrahimov highly appreciated the scientific research conducted by botanists in the liberated territories and noted that the presentation of fundamental publications dedicated to Karabakh at the university would make an important contribution to the development of cooperation between scientific and educational institutions and to providing students with scientific literature.
Speaking at the event, Director of the Institute of Botany PLE, Professor Sayyara Ibadullayeva, provided detailed information about the expeditions conducted in recent years to study the floral diversity of Karabakh and the scientific results obtained. The professor noted that the presented publications are important scientific sources reflecting the rich biodiversity of Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur, as well as the current state of the region’s vegetation cover.
Then, the staff members of the Institute of Botany PLE — Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Elman Iskandar, PhD in Biology, Associate Professor Parvana Garakhani, PhD in Biology Hilal Imanli, and PhD in Biology, Associate Professor Nuri Movsumova — delivered presentations on the topics covered in the books and provided information about the tree and shrub species, rare and endemic plants, and ethnobotanical heritage of Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur.
At the end of the event, Director of the Institute of Botany PLE, Professor Sayyara Ibadullayeva, presented the books dedicated to the flora of Karabakh to Director of the Publishing and Library Center of Karabakh University, Donmez Khalilova. At the same time, the professor presented the university with a floral-themed artwork as a commemorative gift on her behalf. In addition, 67 books selected from the professor’s personal library, as well as 61 books from the library collection of the Institute of Botany PLE, were donated to the Publishing and Library Center of Karabakh University. As a result, the university’s library collection was enriched with a total of 128 new books.
The university administration expressed its gratitude to the staff of the Institute of Botany PLE for these valuable gifts and noted that the books would serve as an important scientific resource for students. The possibilities for expanding scientific cooperation between the Institute of Botany PLE and Karabakh University were also discussed.
Following the event, the staff members of the Institute of Botany PLE visited the landmarks of Khankendi city and became closely acquainted with the large-scale restoration and reconstruction works being carried out in the city.
