09.07.2026

A scientific article co-authored by Professor Sayyara Ibadullayeva, acting director of the Institute of Botany PLE of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and Aygun Mammadova, PhD in Biology and leading researcher, titled "Three liverwort taxa new to Azerbaijan," has been published in the Bangladesh Journal of Plant Taxonomy. The journal is indexed in international scientific databases and belongs to the Q2 quartile.

During bryological research conducted in the Zaqatala, Shabran, and Astara districts, three liverwort species — Scapania calcicola, Barbilophozia hatcheri, and Porella cordaeana — were recorded for the first time in the country's bryoflora. The article presents the morphological features, geographical distribution, ecological characteristics, illustrations, and comparative analysis of the newly recorded species with morphologically similar species. As a result of the morphological studies and comparisons with international taxonomic sources, it was confirmed that these species are new to the bryoflora of Azerbaijan.
