28.07.2026

A scientific article titled "New national and regional bryophyte records, 85," co-authored by Aygun Mammadova — leading researcher at the Institute of Botany PLE of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, PhD in Biology, and associate professor — together with foreign scientists, has been published in the Journal of Bryology, a Q2-quartile journal indexed in international scientific databases. The article presents scientific findings from more than 40 researchers from various countries around the world.

The publication introduces two moss species recorded for the first time for Azerbaijan's bryoflora — Grimmia hartmanii Schimp. and Hypnum jutlandicum Holmen & E. Warncke. During the research, Grimmia hartmanii was discovered in Hirkan National Park in the Masally district, while Hypnum jutlandicum was found in Samur-Yalama National Park in the Khachmaz district. Based on morphological studies and comparisons with international taxonomic sources, these species were determined to be new records for Azerbaijan's bryoflora. The article presents the diagnostic features, distribution ranges, and morphological characteristics distinguishing the newly recorded species from similar ones.
