The General Meeting of the Department of Biology and Medical Sciences(DBMS) was held at the Presidium of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences on November 20.

Academician-secretary of the department, academician Ahliman Amiraslanov, department and bureau members, heads of scientific institutions of DBMS and other guests attended the event.

First of all, correspondent member of ANAS Zeynal Akperov congratulated academician Ahliman Amiraslanov with the honorary title “Honor” by the order of the President of Azerbaijan Republic Mr. Ilham Aliyev and on the occasion of his 70th anniversary on behalf of their collectives.

Academician Ahliman Amiraslanov informed about awarding with "Progress" medal of Corresponding Member of ANAS Novruz Guliyev and correspondent member of ANAS Alishir Musayev and noted that, correspondent member of ANAS Sudeyif Imamverdiyev gained presidential scholarships.

Then, academician Ahliman Amiraslanov familiarized participants with the issues on the agenda. The head of the department stated that according to the decision of the Presidium of ANAS, correspondent member of ANAS Ibrahim Azizov deserved the honorary decree of ANAS and the senior scientific worker of the Institute of Zoology, doctor of biological sciences Zakariya Mammadov awarded the honorary decree of DBMS and presented the awards to scientists.

The meeting discussed the execution of the Presidium's decision on the results of the scientific research works carried out in the scientific institutions of ANAS in 2017.

The next issue on the agenda was the implementation of the Decree of the Presidium on the Action Plan for the implementation of the "State Program on Azerbaijani Youth in 2017-2021." It was stated that the Plan of Activities was submitted to the scientific institutions and regularly the department was instructed to provide information.

At the event, the issue of candidates for directors at Botanical and Dendrology institutes was also discussed. Academician Ahliman Amiraslanov said that according to the Charter of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, approved by the relevant decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Director of the Scientific Institution of ANAS is elected by the secret ballot at the General Meeting of the Division for 5 years and endorsed by the Presidium. The academic secretary of the division noted that candidates to the position of director of scientific institutions may be nominated by the Presidium. According to A. Amiraslanov, the director of the Institute of Botany is the candidate of the acad. Valide Alizadeh and the corresponding member of ANAS Tofig Mammadov is the candidate of director of the Dendrology Institute.

It was decided to make partial changes in the structure of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Zoology, as well as some personnel issues.
