Famous biologist, rector of the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Laureate of the Shohrat and Sharaf Orders, academician Urhan Alakbarov is 75th on April 28.
Urhan Alakbarov was born on April 28, 1943 in Baku. In 1965 he graduated from the biological faculty of the Azerbaijan State University (now BSU) and entered postgraduate study at the Institute of General Genetics of the USSR Academy of Sciences.
In 1968 he received the degree of Doctor of Philosophy, in 1978 he was Doctor of Science. In 1983 he was elected a corresponding member of ANAS and in 1989 - active member.
In 1965 started working in ANAS, in 1968-78 the scientist worked in the Institute of Botany of ANAS as a junior researcher, scientific secretary, deputy director of scientific work, director. In 1987-1996 he became vice-president of ANAS. In 1988-2002 he was the director of the Institute of Genetics and Selection of ANAS.
By the order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan of December 27, 2011, U.Alakparov was appointed rector of the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The scientist has developed new scientific concepts in the field of biodiversity conservation and enhancement of genetic systems stability, detection and use of antimutagenic, anticarcinogenic and geroprotective agents. He is the author of concepts in the field of gene pool protection, sustainable and knowledge-based development, planning, management and evaluation of environmental civilization.
Academician U. Alakbarov is the author of more than 300 scientific works, including more than 30 books and textbooks. The scientist has important merits in the training of highly qualified personnel. Under his leadership, 25 PhDs and 4 doctors of science were trained.
The world-famous expert in the planning and management of science and development U.Alakbarov carries out activities in many international organizations, including the activities of the coordinator and advisor of the United Nations and UNESCO. The scientist lectures at the universities of the USA, Germany, Turkey, Switzerland, Russia and Georgia on the management of the environment as a unified system for the sake of sustainable development and ecological civilization.
In 1994-2003, according to the decision of the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the academician headed the annual report of the UN project "On Human Development in the Republic of Azerbaijan".
By order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated April 26, 2013 he was awarded the Order "Shokhrat" for his contribution to the development of science and education in the Republic of Azerbaijan.
