Aytan Fatdayeva, PhD student of the Institute of Botany of ANAS and Lala Isgandarova, master’s student of the same Institute participated in the symposium “Between Europe and the Orient” held in Almaty, Kazakhstan on April 16-19, 2018. The aim of the symposium organized with a support of Volkswagen Foundation was to bring together young researchers and scientists participating in the projects financed on the natural and social sciences in the Central Asia and Caucasus and provide a condition for mutual exchange of views.
Within the event 18 oral lectures on the appropriate sections were listened. The lecture of prof. Dr. Thomas Borsch, Director of the Botanic Garden and the Botanical Museum Berlin-Dahlem about up-to-date researches carried out to study the plant gene Scutellaria L., Pyrus L. və Campanula L. and determine their phylogenetic origin on the program “Developing Tools for Conservation of Plant Diversity in South Caucasus” attracted great interest.
More than 50 poster-lectures of young researchers and other scientists participating in the symposium were listened and demonstrated. The poster-lecture in the subject of “Diversity and Evolution of Scutellaria (Lamiaceae) in Azerbaijan and neighboring countries” and “Development and Conservation of Herbarium Infrastructure” of the scientists of the Institute of Botany were successfully presented.
At the end the participants were given certificates.
