International scientific projects and collaboration relationships carried out in the context of the Memorandum signed between MSBP (Millennium Seed Bank Partnership) Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew and the Institute of Botany of ANAS for the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity of Azerbaijan are successfully continued.
Within the framework of collaboration Dr. Naiba Mehdiyeva, head of the Laboratory of Phytosociology of Ecosystems of the Institute, Aida Ibrahimova, head of the Seed Bank Sector and young specialist PhD student Nigar Mursal went on a business trip to London, Great Britain. The aim of the visit was to discuss the projects “Global Tree Seed Bank” and “Collection of Seeds of Wild Plant Species of Azerbaijan” carried out jointly with the Millenium Seed Bank. During the meeting with Aishay Faruk, the Coordinator of the MTB Caucasus Program the discussions were carried out around the results and the future perspectives of research works implemented on the joint projects. Planned joint project for the inclusion of the names of medicinal plant species of Azerbaijan to online database of Kew Medicinal Plant Names Services was discussed with Dr. Bob Alkin, founder of the MPNS, Kew Internet portal and first steps were taken respectively.
Moreover, a number of meetings were held with the scientists of RBG, Kew and MSD and scientific exchange of views were made on the cultivation of plants under in vitro condition, the ecological modelling of biodiversity at an ecosystem level, the study of chemical composition of medicinal plants, GIS technologies and etc.
