The chapter “Halophytic plant diversity of Duzdag area of Nakhchivan AR: Azerbaijan” by professor Sayyara Ibadullayeva, Head of Laboratory of Ethnobotany of the Institute of Botany of ANAS and scientific worker Dr. Nuri Movsumova was published in the book titled as “Ecophysiology, Abiotic Stress Responses and Utilization of Halophytes”. Mirza Hasanizzaman, Kamrun Nahar and Munir Ozturk are the editors of publication.
The chapter noted that mainly halophytic plants are distributed in the region: two divisions Gnetophyta and Magnoliophyta), three classes (Ephedropsida, Magnoliopsida and Liliopsida). The flora of the region has been thoroughly analyzed, and it has been established that the ranks of Magnoliopsida dominates as anywhere else in Azerbaijan. 233 species of Duzdagh area belong to this range and are formed mainly by the xerophytic elements of the Mediterranean and the Asian region. Out of them 28 species were determined as rare and endangered. It is recommended to use halophytes as a marker for the cultivation of salt-resistant varieties. Detailed information on the phytochemical and ecobiological features of some species, including possibilities of their use were provided.
