Like other scientific institutions of ANAS, Institute of Botany joins the "Stay home" project and carries out its activities online in accordance with the requirements of the special quarantine regime established by the state.
Director of the Institute of Botany of ANAS, academician Valida Alizadeh gave an interview on the scientific-organizational activity of the enterprise under the special quarantine regime. She said that in connection with the current regime, it is impossible to continue experimental work in accordance with the approved research plan of the institute for 2020:
The scientist said that the members of the editorial board of “Plant & Fungal Research”, the periodical of the Institute of Botany, which was officially established in 2018 in accordance with international requirements, are successfully continuing cooperation both at the domestic and international levels. The next, 4th issue of the journal, scheduled for June 2020, has already begun.
Noting that purposeful work is being done to prepare the e-flora of Azerbaijan, the director of the institute said that a list of information on the current classification and nomenclature of natural, xenophyte and adventitious vascular plants of the Azerbaijani flora has been compiled. The first volume of the book "The Higher Plants without Flowers of Azerbaijan" was published in electronic version in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic, the first volume of which was written by academician Irada Huseynova and she was the editor-in-chief, she noted.
Valida Alizadeh stressed out that, 9 master students majoring in "Botany", "Plant Physiology", "Mycology" and "Environmental Protection and Biological Monitoring" at the institute’s master’s degree attend the online classes via “Skype and "Zoom" programs in accordance with the approved second semester schedule and subject syllabi. "Supervisors provide scientific and methodological advice to second-year master students (3 people) to complete their dissertations on time. In addition, electronic forms of lectures and presentations are sent to master students e-mail addresses. Photo and videos reflecting the course are submitted to the Education Department," she added.
Academician V. Alizadeh noted that the work in the social sphere was carried out in accordance with the requirements of the current situation. 10 low-income employees of the institute were provided with financial assistance by direct delivery to their addresses, and Institute of Botany intends to transfer funds to the Coronavirus Relief Fund,
