Division of Biological and Medical Sciences of ANAS successfully operates in a special quarantine regime

The institutes of the Division of Biological and Medical Sciences of ANAS continues scientific activities in strict compliance with the existing quarantine regime in connection with the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

During the last month, scientists and specialists of all institutes of the division analyzed the research and experiments completed in the pre-quarantine period, and prepared papers for submission to various journals. In addition, the division employees are going on to write monographs, textbooks and other books.

Scientists in the field of coronavirus and other relevant fields have made regular speeches and interviews in the press and on television. Thus, the head of the Laboratory of Ethnobotany of the Institute of Botany of ANAS, Professor Sayyara Ibadullayeva in the program "Good morning, Azerbaijan" on ITV spoke about "How effective is the treatment of folk medicine in the fight against coronavirus?",  a leading researcher of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology PhD in Biology, Associate Professor Saadat Khudaverdiyeva on AzTV's "Telesahar" program "Can animals that carry the coronavirus infect their owners?" etc.

In addition, an extensive interview on the pandemic was published in the "Baku-Khabar" newspaper and AZERTAC by the Deputy Director for Science of the Institute of Microbiology of ANAS, corresponding member of ANAS Panah Muradov. At the same time, he was a guest on the program "Ecoetics" broadcasted by Madaniyyat TV and responded a question from the ATV channel about the spread of the virus in water.

Director of the Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry of ANAS, corresponding member of ANAS Alovsat Guliyev told AZERTAC that he fulfilled the important tasks set by President Ilham Aliyev to ensure food security in the post-pandemic period.

During the quarantine period, distance education was successfully continued in the master's programs of the institutes of the Division of Biological and Medical Sciences. The second-year masters participated in lectures and seminars on the subjects taught in the relevant specialties online, and underwent scientific and pedagogical practice by observing professional teachers.

Also, the Central Botanical Garden, Institute of Dendrology and Genetic Resources continued field, experimental, plant care, biomorphological research, taking into account the rules of the quarantine regime. Young scientists and specialists of the institutes participated in international webinars and online training courses in various fields of science.

Currently, new research plans for the post-pandemic period, scientific projects and programs are being prepared for submission to various foundations. Thus, Institute of Physiology is engaged in the development of two projects on "Experimental researches on organ and tissue transplantation and immunological support" and "Research on the study of the physiological effects of naphthalene oil."

As noted in the letter of gratitude to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev by the vice-president of ANAS academician Irada Huseynova, the division and its institutes will try to make real contributions to the state security, especially biosafety system, preparedness for unexpected natural and man-made disasters.
