A joint meeting of the Scientific Council of the Department of Biological and Medical Sciences (DBMS) of ANAS with the Scientific Council of the Central Botanical Garden was held.

Opening the event, Vice-President of ANAS, Academician Irada Huseynova acquainted the participants with the issues on the agenda. She informed about the visit of the delegation of the Russian Academy of Sciences to Baku on November 25-27, 2021, and the meeting with the representatives of the institutes of DBMS at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies.
Later, the chairman of the Scientific Council of DBMS informed about the large-scale reforms implemented in ANAS, including the Central Botanical Garden (CBG), the work done to rebuild and develop the garden with the management of Natig Allahverdiyev, the ongoing positive processes. Speaking about the history, mandate and functions of the Botanical Garden, its importance for the Academy and Azerbaijan, Academician Irada Huseynova noted that along with economic activities, the organization of scientific research at a high level is a priority.

Then, Academician Irada Huseynova introduced Doctor of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor Hasan Babayev, who was appointed to the position of Executive Director of the Central Botanical Garden of ANAS by the order of the President of ANAS, Academician Ramiz Mehdiyev. He informed the participants about the life, scientific and public activities of Hasan Babayev, noting that Hasan Babayev graduated from the Faculty of Biology of the Azerbaijan State University in 1987 on a Lenin scholarship. Hasan Babayev started his scientific activity as a senior laboratory assistant at the Institute of Botany of the Academy of Sciences of the Azerbaijan SSR in 1987. Until 2016, he worked at the institute as a junior researcher, researcher, senior researcher and leading researcher. In 2016-2020, he held the position of a leading researcher at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies of ANAS, and since 2020 he has been holding the position of a senior researcher at the Laboratory of Enzymology of Photosynthetic Assimilation of Carbon. Hasan Babayev defended his PhD in Biochemistry in 1999, his doctoral dissertation in 2018, and in 2004 received the title of Associate Professor. The scientist is the author of about 220 scientific works, including 1 monograph. Under the scientific guidance of Hasan Babayev, 1 doctoral dissertation was defended, 2 dissertations were completed, research on 2 works is underway. At the end of her speech, Academician Irada Huseynova expressed confidence that Hasan Babayev will succeed in his new position.

Then issues such as inclusion of Hasan Babayev in the Scientific Council of the CBG and his election as a chairman to the council, other changes in the composition of the Scientific Council, as well as the election of Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Elman Iskander as deputy chairman etc. were considered and relevant decisions were made.
