A joint meeting of the Scientific Council of the Division of Biological and Medical Sciences, and the Scientific Council of IMBB was held.
The event was dedicated to the discussion of the results of scientific and scientific-organizational activities of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies in 2021.
First, a minute of silence was observed to honor the memory of the martyrs of the 44-day war and the servicemen who died in the crash of a military helicopter of the State Border Service.
Vice-president of ANAS, academician Irada Huseynova, who chaired the meeting, gave a report on the results of scientific and scientific-organizational activities of the institute in 2021.
Academician first reported on the implementation of decrees and orders of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, decisions and orders of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan, tasks related to state programs this year. She noted that the institute continued research on 41 stages of 26 cases in order to implement 6 topics around 3 areas and 3 problems in the current year.
The academician said that in 2021, 4 most important results were obtained in 14 laboratories of the institute, reflecting scientific researches conducted by 1 academician, 11 doctors of sciences, and 21 doctors of philosophy.
Comprehensive researches aimed at solving problems that are considered a priority for the world -computer biology, artificial intellect, machine learning methods, nanomaterials, etc. are being conducted at the institute. Special attention is paid to staff training in this direction. A number of important achievements were made in research and training in the field of "Research of physiological and molecular-genetic basis of pathologies, development of new diagnostic and treatment methods, drugs and application of high technologies and stem cells in reproductive medicine". The newly established Population Genomics Laboratory is conducting intensive research in the field of molecular genetic research of the Azerbaijani population and some widespread diseases, the creation of biobanks, and databases.
In 2021, a total of 116 articles and theses, including 1 textbook, were published in 22 high-ranking journals submitted by the staff of the institute.
This year, the institute hosted 2 local conferences, 3 international conferences jointly organized by the institute and the Division of Biological and Medical Sciences of ANAS, numerous scientific seminars, employees participated in international and local conferences, and received numerous certificates.
Master's degree training has been successfully continued within the framework of integration of science and education. Currently, 16 masters are studying at the institute and conducting research. This year, 9 second-year masters in "Molecular Biology", "Biochemistry", "Biotechnology" and "Nanobiotechnology defended their dissertations. The dissertation work of 2 employees was discussed in ED 1.25 Dissertation Council operating under the Institute and submitted to the Higher Attestation Commission, the dissertation work of 1 employee was discussed in the seminar council and submitted for open defense. Young specialists of the institute study at the leading universities of the world within the scholarship program of the Islamic Development Bank, the State Program on Enhancing the International Competitiveness of the Higher Education System in the Republic of Azerbaijan, the joint doctoral program announced by ANAS and the University of Montpellier in France. In the reporting year, official agreements on mutual cooperation were signed with 3 foreign and 3 local organizations.
Then the report was widely discussed, and the speakers praised the one-year activity of the institute and the results achieved.
In the end, the institute's annual report was adopted unanimously.
At the end of the meeting, Academician Irada Huseynova sincerely congratulated President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on the occasion of his 60th anniversary on behalf of members and scientific staff of the Division of Biological and Medical Sciences of ANAS and, wished him a long life, good health, greater success in his sacred activities for the steady rise and prosperity of our country, the growth of economic, political and military power, the irreversibility of independence and territorial integrity. Academician Irada Huseynova informed that an event will be held in the Central Botanical Garden and 60 Sycamore trees will be planted.
