Corresponding member of ANAS Tofig Mammadov turns 65

Today, Tofig Mammadov, a well-known scientist in the field of botany,  Order of Glory,  Director General of the Institute of Dendrology, corresponding member of ANAS,  turns 65.

Tofig Sadig oglu Mammadov was born on February 10, 1957 in Dirnis village of Ordubad region of Nakhchivan AR. He graduated from the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Azerbaijan Institute of Civil Engineers (1982), was a dissertation of the Institute of Botany of ANAS (1995-1999).

He worked as a chief engineer, deputy director (1986), director (1996) at the Mardakan Arboretum of the Institute of Botany of the Academy of Sciences of the Azerbaijan SSR. In 2014-2021 he was the director of the Institute of Dendrology of ANAS. Since 2021, he is the director general of the institute. He is a professor at the Department of Medical Biology, Baku State University, University of Botany and Odlar Yurdu.

Tofig Mammadov received a PhD in botany in 2000, a doctorate in biology and ecology in 2004, and a professorship in 2014. He has been a corresponding member of ANAS since 2007.

The main directions of the scientist's scientific activity are to determine the priority directions of the introduction of trees and shrubs in different areas of the country for the preservation of the gene pool of trees and shrubs, especially rare and endangered species, increasing biodiversity, restoration of natural resources, proper and efficient use. , as well as giving important recommendations on environmental protection. Under his leadership and advice, 2 doctors of philosophy and 1 doctor of sciences were trained.

Tofig Mammadov is the author of more than 310 scientific works, including 32 books, 276 articles, 11 patents and 2 certificates.  He has presented papers at more than 50 international conferences, congresses and symposiums in a number of countries around the world . “Ecology” (2004), “Floriculture Encyclopedia” (2006), “Lawn and decorative architecture” (2006), “Ecological games” (2007), “Explanatory terms on plant anatomy and morphology” (2013), “Plant ecology” (2013) books are used as textbooks in universities. The five-volume “Azerbaijan Dendroflora” (2011-2019) contains important results on the protection of plant gene pool in the Greater and Lesser Caucasus, increasing biodiversity, protecting the environment, efficient use of natural resources and their restoration.

At his initiative and efforts, International Botanical Gardens Conferences (2006, 2010, 2013, 2015, 2017) were held at the Institute of Dendrology of ANAS, the institute was elected a member of the World Botanical Gardens (2005), American Botanical Society (2009).

Tofig Mammadov is a member of the editorial board of the Bulgarian journals Poleobotanika and Hortus Botanicus, the Botanical Gardens of the CIS countries, and the expert council of the Turkish Iman University magazine. In 2013-2016 he worked as a deputy academician-secretary of the Department of Biological and Medical Sciences of ANAS, was a member of the bureau (2016-2019), now he is a member of the Scientific Council of the department. In 2014-2015 he was a member of the Dissertation Defense Council at the Institute of Botany of ANAS.

In 2005 he was awarded the title of "Man of the Year" in the field of ecology, Honorary Decree of the Baku City Executive Power, "Heydar Aliyev" of the Caucasus Public Union, "YH Mammadaliyev" of the Araz Enlightenment Society, H. Zardabi ”,“ Z. Tagiyev ”, Sh.I. Khatai ”and so on. awards, 2 times Honorary Decree of ANAS, in  2015 by the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev he was awarded the Order of Glory of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
