An event dedicated to the memory of National Leader Heydar Aliyev was held at the Institute of Botany of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The event was opened by the general director of the institute, doctor of biological sciences, professor Sayyara Ibadullayeva. S.Ibadullayeva said that during Heydar Aliyev's leadership of the republic, great achievements were made in the economic and social sphere as a result of strengthening the administration and increasing the demands on personnel. Heydar Aliyev made a statement in the representative office of Azerbaijan in Moscow the next day (January 21, 1990) in connection with the tragedy committed by the Soviet troops in Baku on January 20, 1990, and demanded the punishment of the organizers and perpetrators of the crime committed against the people of Azerbaijan. Due to the situation in Azerbaijan and the demand of the people, the heads of state at that time had to officially invite Heydar Aliyev to Baku. On October 3, 1993, as a result of the national vote, Heydar Aliyev was elected the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. With his return to the leadership of Azerbaijan, the country's socio-political, social, economic, scientific-cultural life, international relations have turned around, and the process of independent state-building in accordance with scientific principles, international norms and principles has begun.
The general director drew attention to the fact that the years of Heydar Aliyev's rule were marked by the addition of a number of important pages to the history of the Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences, including the Institute of Botany. Even after 1969, Heydar Aliyev, who acted as one of the top leaders of the USSR state, paid special attention to the intensive development of scientific potential in our Republic and the training of new highly qualified scientific personnel. In the 1970s and 1980s, he sent young specialists to the leading scientific institutions of the world to create a base in our republic for separate fields of botany, especially new fields. A genius who treated science with great respect was always remembered by scientists and nationalized the Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences.
The professor also noted that today President Ilham Aliyev, a follower of Heydar Aliyev's course, has turned Azerbaijan into a strong state. On September 27, 2020, Azerbaijan cleared our territories from occupation with the counter-offensive operations against the aggression of Armenia, brought victory to Azerbaijan as a result of the 44-day Patriotic War, and the operations carried out by our army added new pages to modern military history.
In the end, S. Ibadullayeva emphasized that on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of the National Leader of the Azerbaijani people, Heydar Aliyev, according to the decree of President Ilham Aliyev dated September 29, 2022, 2023 was declared the "Year of Heydar Aliyev" in Azerbaijan. We should meet the year 2023 with our achievements and do things that will please the spirit of the genius leader.
Other speakers at the event, doctor of biological sciences, Professor Eldar Novruzov, doctor of biological sciences, Shakir Gasimov, doctor of biological sciences, Dilzare Aghayeva, PhD in biology, Aygun Mammadova, PhD in biology, Parvana Karakhani, spoke and expressed their views on the historical services of the national leader of our people, Heydar Aliyev.
Within the framework of the event, a group of young employees of the Institute went to the Alley of Honor and visited the grave of the Great Leader, laid flowers in front of it, and commemorated his dear memory with great respect.
