An event related to the March 31 Genocide was held at the Botanical Institute of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The participants of the event commemorated the dear memory of the genocide victims with a minute of silence and deep respect.
The general director of the Institute, professor Sayyara Ibadullayeva, referring to the historical facts about the genocide, spoke about the cruelty and scale of the tragedy. She noted that between March 30 and April 3, 1918, the Baku Soviet and Dashnak Armenian armed groups committed genocide against Azerbaijanis in Baku city and in various regions of Baku governorate, including Shamakhi, Guba, Khachmaz, Lankaran, Hajigabul, Salyan, Zangezur, Karabakh, Nakhchivan and in other areas. According to official sources, as a result of the genocide, about 12,000 Azerbaijanis were killed and tens of thousands of people went missing.
On March 26, 1998, the decree "On the Genocide of Azerbaijanis" signed by national leader Heydar Aliyev was a full and comprehensive political evaluation of the criminal acts of Armenian nationalists. Consistent and purposeful work has been done in order to present Armenian brutality to the world. The President Ilham Aliyev's Decree dated December 30, 2009 "On the establishment of the Genocide Memorial Complex in Guba city" is one of the important steps taken in this direction.
The professor also noted that the glorious victory of our valiant army in the Patriotic War under the leadership of Commander-in-Chief Muzaffar Ali and the patriotic upbringing of our future youth is our proud. Important tasks fall on the youth of Azerbaijan in terms of conveying the real truths to the international world using the possibilities of modern information technologies.
Speaking at the event, professor Eldar Novruzov, doctor of biological sciences Dilzare Aghayeva, PhD in biolody Sevil Dadashova and others evaluated the March genocide as one of the bloodiest tragedies in the history of the Azerbaijani people.
At the end of the event, a video dedicated to the Day of Genocide of Azerbaijanis on March 31 was shown.
