Successful scientific research is being conducted at the Institute of Botany of the Ministry of Science and Education. Last year, 105 species of mosses were collected from Lerik district.
AZERTAC was informed about this from the Institute. It was reported that as a result of research, 73 taxa of leafy mosses belonging to 25 families and 46 genera were discovered for the area and included in the electronic database of the biological herbarium fund.
Thanks to bioecological analyses, it was shown that leafy moss species develop and spread based on the dominance of mesophyte, mesoxerophyte, and xeromesophyte ecological groups. This is associated with the positive influence of the natural-geographical and climatic conditions of that region (a massif of forests, springs, rivers and a humid climate) on the spread of bryophytes that love humidity.
