The Institute of Botany of the State Agency for Science and Higher Education of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan was included in the “Biodiversity Conservation Alliance for Arid Land (BCAA)”.
“Conservation and Sustainable Use of Biodiversity for Green Livelihood in Arid Lands” a side event to COP15 was held in Montreal, Canada on December 11, 2022. This event was jointly organized by the Alliance of International Science Organizations (ANSO), and the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, Chinese Academy of Sciences (XIEG). The Biodiversity Conservation Alliance in Arid Lands (BCAA) was jointly launched by Alliance of International Science Organizations (ANSO), the International Center for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), International Platform for Dryland Research and Education (IPDRE), National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan (NAST), Institute of Botany, Physiology and Plant Genetics of NAST, Institute of Zoology and Parasitology of NAST, Pamir Biological Institute of NAST, Institute of Zoology of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Institute of Botany of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan and Institute of Biology of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic.
BCAA will pool the wisdom of scientists from multiple countries, focus on the problems and challenges of biodiversity conservation in arid lands, and conduct joint research on key issues such as mechanisms leading to species endangerment, improvement of ecosystem services, and conservation and sustainable development of biological resources in arid lands, etc., contribute to the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the Biodiversity Vision 2050, and to promote community building in arid lands with a shared future for all life.
This alliance will be considered an international platform for governments, civil societies, scientists and local communities to carry out collaborative research, knowledge sharing, capacity building and other activities in conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity in arid lands.
President Ilham Aliyev declared the “Year of Solidarity for the Green World' in the Republic of Azerbaijan” by decree.
According to the Decree, within the framework of the “Green World Solidarity Year” in Azerbaijan”, an international conference will be held under the joint organization of the Institute of Botany of the State Agency for Science and Higher Education of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Biodiversity Conservation Alliance for Arid Land.
