Head of the Laboratory of Algology and Lichenobryology of the Institute of Botany, associate professor Shakar Mukhtarova gave an interview to the CBC Azerbaijan television channel. In the interview, information was provided on the work on the project "Creation of algae biocultivators that reduce carbon emissions on the Caspian coast of Azerbaijan" carried out by scientists of the Institute of Botany and Chelyabinsk State University. The aim of the project was the study of the species of algae distributed in the Caspian Sea (within the borders of Azerbaijan); and creation of a collection of algae to ensure the continuity of laboratory research; reduce the concentration of carbon dioxide in industrial-household facilities and open areas; study of biotechnology for cultivation and the technology of using products obtained from algae in the field of aquaculture. It is planned to use algae in the compensation of greenhouse gas emissions in the regions of Azerbaijan, and in the purification of fresh and sea water.
