Within the framework of COP29, a presentation of the project “Creating algae biocultivators that reduce carbon emissions on the Caspian coastal area of Azerbaijan” implemented by the  “Society of Azerbaijan Botanists’’ (SABPU) was held at the National NGO Forum Pavilion located in the Green Zone. The event was attended by NGO representatives, SABPU members, employees of the Institute of Botany, and Russian scientists. The event was opened by SABPU chairman,  prof. Sayyara Ibadullayeva, general director of the Institute of Botany, MSERA who welcomed the guests and participants and emphasized the importance of the COP29 event held in our country. The event continued with a panel discussion, provided detailed information about the research project “Creation of algae biocultivators that reduce carbon emissions on the Caspian coastal area of Azerbaijan” carried out by scientists of the Institute of Botany and Chelyabinsk State University. The presentations noted that the main goals of the project are to study the species of algae widespread in the Caspian Sea (within the borders of Azerbaijan), to create a collection to ensure the continuity of laboratory research, to reduce the concentration of carbon dioxide in industrial and domestic facilities, open areas, and to study the technology of using biotechnology and products obtained from algae in the field of aquaculture for algae cultivation.

It is planned to compensate for greenhouse gas emissions in the regions of Azerbaijan and use algae to purify fresh and sea water. As part of the event, algae relevant to the work of the project, as well as exhibits, books and brochures from the Botanical Museum, were displayed at an exhibition organized in the pavilion. It should be noted that the submitted project is being implemented within the framework of the "COP29-related International Initiatives" grant competition jointly announced by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Agency for State Support to Non-Governmental Organizations.
