Employees of the Herbarium Department of the Institute of Botany, MSE RA went on an expedition to Tovuz, Ganja, and Samukh areas. The aim of the expedition was to conduct thorough monitoring of the numerous plant species, new species, new distribution areas, as well as endemic and rare species listed in the Red Book, which are widespread in the area.

As a result of the expedition, the flora of several districts (Tovuz, Ganja, Samukh) and several villages located in the northeast of the Lesser Caucasus were studied, and plants were collected and identified.

During the expedition, employees of the Institute of Botany, together with a group of employees from Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University, Azerbaijan State Agrarian University, and Nakhchivan State University, conducted joint field research in the villages Asrik in Tovuz district and Agjakand in Goranboy district. Monitoring of plant species distributed in the area was conducted, and a new distribution area was identified for 2 species (Filago pyramidata L., Glechoma hederacea L.).
