The article “Antimicrobial activity in cultures of some xylotrophic basidiomycetes from Azerbaijan”, co-authored by the employees of the Institute of Botany, MSE RA, Dr., Professor Dilzara Aghayeva, junior research fellow Aytaj Alimammadova Husuyeva, and the employees of the M.G. Kholodny Institute of Botany of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Dr., Professor Nina Bisko, PhD Nadia Mitropolska, and research fellow Nina Gurinovich, was published in a prestigious journal. The article, which was the result of joint research conducted by Azerbaijani and Ukrainian mycologists, was published in the "Ukrainian Botanical Journal", which is included in the Scopus and Web of Science (MJL) databases. The article studies the antimicrobial activities of several strains of Laetiporus sulphureus, Phellinus igniarius and Pleurotus ostreatus species against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria (Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa). According to the study, the zones of influence of growth of all studied bacterial species under the influence of ethyl acetate extracts of the culture fluid of the L. sulphureusstrain ranged from 7.5 to 12.0 mm. Extracts obtained from the biomass and culture fluid of L. sulphureus, Phellinus igniarius and Pleurotus ostreatus species inhibited the growth of S. aureus and Bacillus subtiles, which indicates their potential for use as antimicrobial agents against Gram-positive B. subtilis.
