Employees of the Centralized Experimental Laboratory of the Institute of Botany PLE under the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan took part in a scientific expedition at the Scientific Research Institute of Fruit and Tea Growing of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

 

During the expedition, observations were carried out on the introduced Kordia cherry variety and Gizella 12 rootstocks, and samples were taken from plant materials to assess their phytosanitary condition. The main goal of the research is to treat plants infected with Prune Dwarf Virus (PDV) with triterpene saponins — a biologically active substance obtained from the seeds of milk thistle (Silybum marianum) — and to prevent the spread of the virus.

 

It should be noted that scientific cooperation between the Institute of Botany PLE and the Scientific Research Institute of Fruit and Tea Growing continues successfully. Based on the results of joint research conducted last year, two scientific articles were prepared and published in the journals "Plant & Fungal Research" and "Advances in Biology and Earth Sciences." These publications confirmed the scientific significance of the joint research and created an important scientific basis for the continuation of the current expedition. The research is currently ongoing.
