In recent years, the unity of science and education in Azerbaijan, cooperation with scientists and specialists working in research institutions and important innovations in this field play a major role in the success of our students in international subject competitions. Successful activities in this field include the achievements of our students representing our country at the 31st International Biology Olympiad IBO Challenge 2020, which is scheduled to be held this year in Nagasaki, Japan, but in a virtual format due to the current pandemic conditions.

Coordinator of the International Biology Olympiad in Azerbaijan, head of the department of the Institute of Botany of ANAS, associate professor Rashad Salimov informed about the process of preparation for the Olympiad and the activities of partner organizations. He said that the purpose of the international Olympiad, which has been hosted by various countries since 1990, is to increase students' interest in biological science and the formation of modern biological thinking. Institute of Botany has also contributed to the theoretical and practical training of our national team, which has been participating in this prestigious competition since 1994.

Note that on August 7-12, our students achieved great success at the 31st International Biology Olympiad "IBO Challenge 2020", which was attended by more than 200 students from 52 countries, under the leadership of Rashad Salimov, with the scientific support of scientists and specialists. Azerbaijani schoolchildren deservedly represented our country at the International Biology Olympiad and won 1 gold and 3 silver medals.
