Institute of Zoology of ANAS has kicked off the research to use the potential of the liberated territories due to underpin food security and provide the population with better quality food in Azerbaijan. Thus, in order to prevent the annual decline in fish consumption in Azerbaijan, it is keen to develop the fishing potential of the liberated territories.
The statement came from Suleyman Suleymanov, a leading researcher at the Institute of Zoology, Ph.D. in Biology, Associate Professor. According to him, the decline in water levels in the rivers of Azerbaijan due to global climate change has led to a decrease in fish stocks.
Suleymanov said that the real situation was observed during the expeditions in the regions of Azerbaijan, the stocks of sturgeon and other species, their distribution and species composition were studied.
As a result of the research, it was defined that the water level in the Kura and Araz rivers decreased by 50-60 percent. The Kura River almost does not reach the sea. As a result, sturgeon and salmon stocks are expected to decline sharply.
He added that serious measures should be taken in this area to prevent these problems, to ensure food security in Azerbaijan and provide the population with better food. For this purpose, it is possible to use the potential of the liberated territories.
