The Institute of Botany, MSE RA held an event dedicated to the 34th anniversary of January 20 events. The event participants commemorated the memory of martyrs with a minute of silence.
Opening the event, general director of the Institute, prof. Sayyara Ibadullayeva stated that January 20 tragedy is a triumph of the independence war, national will and freedom, which the Azerbaijani people fought for many years. Professor noted that as a result of entry of USSR army into Baku on the night of January 19-20, 1990, the children of the country who fought for freedom were martyred, injured, and illegally arrested. Three of the martyrs were employees of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. She added that the first political attitude to this bloody incident was expressed by great leader Heydar Aliyev on January 21, 1990 at the meeting held in the permanent representation of Azerbaijan in Moscow.
S. Ibadullayeva stressed that under the leadership of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, President Ilham Aliyev, the Azerbaijani army liberated our lands from the Armenian occupation and restored the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our country.
She said that soul of martyrs who died today for the independence of Azerbaijan, as well as sovereignty and territorial integrity of our country is happy. Doctor of biological sciences, Aydin Askerov, PhDs in biology Khuraman Khalilova, Sevda Tahirli, Aygun Mammadova, Aladdin Gadimov, Sadiq Garayev, Aydan Zeynalova, Dr. in physics and mathematics Elman Yusifov, scientific worker Shahla Mirzayeva expressed their views by characterizing the January 20 tragedy as a heroic history of our nation.
In the end, the staff of the Institute of Botany visited the Alley of Martyrs to commemorate the memory of January 20 martyrs and laid flowers on their graves.
