Plant Diversity Has Been Investigated in the Guba–Khachmaz Economic Region
17.06.2026

Researchers of the Center for Plant Diversity and Applied Research of the Institute of Botany PLE under the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan conducted an expedition in the Guba–Khachmaz Economic Region.

The purpose of the expedition was to study the plant diversity of the region, investigate plant species of economic importance, explore their reproduction potential, and become aware of modern scientific methods.

During the research, monitoring activities were carried out in different parts of the area and the distribution patterns of plants, their adaptation to environmental conditions and their developmental stages were studied. In addition, plant specimens of scientific and practical significance were collected, and photo and video recordings were made.

During the expedition, the researchers became familiar with the modern plant breeding and microclonal propagation laboratory and greenhouse complex operating at the Scientific Research Institute of Fruit and Tea Growing. Here, information was provided on the rapid in vitro propagation of plants, the production of healthy planting material and the application of modern biotechnological methods.

During the expedition, the ELISA method used in the diagnosis of plant diseases, as well as the extraction technologies of essential oils from aromatic plants were studied. Environmental and anthropogenic factors affecting vegetation were also assessed and the impact of grazing activities and other agricultural practices on biodiversity was investigated. The collected materials will be used for future research, introduction work and for creating new plant collections.
