The international scientific-practical conference on “Modern approaches in the study of the plant kingdom” has started its work
On June 22, an international scientific-practical conference on “Modern approaches in the study of the plant kingdom” dedicated to the 100th anniversary of National Leader Heydar Aliyev started at the Institute of Botany, the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

First, the exhibition reflecting the scientific achievements of the Institutes’s scientists was viewed in the lobby of the institute.

The international conference began with the performance of the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Opening the event, prof. Sayyara Ibadullayeva, general director of the Institute of Botany, spoke about the invaluable services of Great Leader Heydar Aliyev in the direction of intensive development of scientific potential and training of highly qualified scientific personnel in our republic.

Professor Sayyara Ibadullayeva noted that thanks to the foresight of Heydar Aliyev, modern fields of science such as biology, biochemistry, biophysics, gene biotechnology, bioinformatics, bioenergetics, have developed in our republic. According to her, today the scientific-research works of our biologists aimed at the comprehensive study of plants at the botanical, technological, medical, physico-chemical, cellular, genetic level are internationally recognized and appreciated.

The scientist noted that the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev, saying that the stable development of Azerbaijan depends on the solution of environmental problems, laid the foundation for the formation of a new ecological thought in the republic, as a result of which a new view and correct attitude towards biological diversity emerged.

The general director of the institute emphasized that this policy is being successfully continued by President Ilham Aliyev, the worthy follower of the National Leader. She said that with the liberation of Karabakh from the hated enemy under the leadership of Commander-in-Chief, opportunities have arisen for our biologists to conduct large-scale research in the direction of researching the biological diversity of Karabakh, as well as the republic.

“Today, the main task facing our scientists is to unite closely around the President of the country by justifying the trust shown to them, to protect Azerbaijan's statehood, to strengthen its independence, and to try to increase the intensity of fundamental and applied research for the sake of economic revival,” Sayyara Ibadullayeva said at the end of her speech.

Then the vice-president of ANAS, academician Irada Huseynova drew attention to the fact that the Institute of Botany is a wide-profile scientific center that studies the world of plants in our country. Academician Irada Huseynova noted that a large part of the scientific activity of academician Jalal Aliyev, a great scientist and social and political figure, who had unparalleled services in establishing modern directions of biological science in Azerbaijan, as well as a scientific school in this field, was connected to this institute, as well as emphasized that modern achievements in plant physiology, biochemistry, biophysics, molecular biology and bioinformatics at the Institute of Botany are closely related to academician Jalal Aliyev’s activities. She also noted the great services of academician A. Grossheim, who laid the foundation of floristic and geobotanical research in our republic, in the development of the Institute of Botany.

The vice-president emphasized that the 100th anniversary of Heydar Aliyev, National Leader of the Azerbaijani people, an outstanding statesman, was celebrated on a large scale in our country and beyond its borders. Academician Irada Huseynova said that the Great Leader paid special attention and care to science and scientists, and saw the development of our people in science and the enrichment of their intellectual potential. She said that this policy, which was laid by the Great Leader, was successfully continued by President Ilham Aliyev, the legal base of science was strengthened, and the “Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan on Science” was adopted.

Academician Irada Huseynova said that the third edition of the “Red Book” of Azerbaijan is a valuable contribution of our scientists to the “Year of Heydar Aliyev”, said that the scientists of the Institute of Botany were closely involved in the development of the publication, and presented all 5 copies of the “Red Book” to the scientists of the Institute.

Doctor Zarifa Guliyeva, member of the Board of the Women's Council of YAP, doctor of biological sciences, professor Kamila Aliyeva, member of parliament, Samir Hamidov, representative of the Ministry of Science and Education, Arzu Babayeva, a representative of the Biological Diversity Protection Service under the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, academician Tariyel Talibov, senior researcher of the Institute of Bioresources of Nakhchivan Branch of ANAS, Panah Muradov, general director of the Institute of Microbiology, corresponding member of ANAS, Vagif Novruz, head of the Botany Department of Ganja State University, assoc. prof. Dilzara Aghayeva, head of the Mycology Department of the Institute of Botany, and others spoke about the exceptional historical services of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev to the people and the state of Azerbaijan, the important work he did in the direction of developing biological science, protecting the flora, as well as opening wide opportunities for intellectuals and scientists of our republic.
